Background and Customer Challenge

A large shopping mall in Canada required an efficient updated security system that would result in ensuring public safety, minimizing liability, monitoring contractor access, preventing property damage including vandalism and loitering as well as monitoring employee access to the facility through video verification.

CONTAVA Solution

CONTAVA provided an integrated security solution by deploying Genetec Security Center’s Video Management System and Access Control platforms. IP based cameras were installed to provide video verification and to address all of the shopping mall’s security needs. Due to the size of the property, number of shoppers visiting the mall and employees, one of the major challenges of this project was to get sufficient video surveillance cameras in all areas as well as installing a cabling infrastructure and network backbone to support it.

Project Outcome

As a direct result of installing numerous cameras throughout various locations in the mall, our client immediately saw return of their investment. Escalator cameras provided immediate on-time information on the causes of damage to the escalator driven by couriers wheeling heavy carts. Personal safety and liability claims from public use of the escalator could be reviewed. Cameras aided in discovering property damage, theft and public disturbance on numerous occasions.
